What is Kybella?
Kybella is an FDA-approved injectable formulated with deoxycholic acid, a molecule naturally found in the body that helps break down and absorb dietary fat. When injected into the submental area, Kybella destroys unwanted fat cells, allowing the body to naturally eliminate them over time. Once these cells are removed, they cannot regenerate, meaning results are long-lasting with proper maintenance.
Treatment typically involves a series of targeted injections spaced several weeks apart to achieve optimal contouring and definition.
Who is a Candidate?
Kybella is ideal for healthy adults who want to improve the appearance of a double chin or enhance the definition of their jawline without surgery. During your consultation, your provider will assess your anatomy and treatment goals to determine if Kybella is right for you. Patients should not receive treatment if they have an active infection in the area, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or are currently taking blood thinners.
What to Expect
Each Kybella session takes about 15–20 minutes. Your provider will cleanse and mark the treatment area before administering a series of small injections beneath the chin. The number of injections and sessions varies based on your goals and the amount of submental fullness being treated. Most patients require two to six sessions, spaced about four weeks apart.

There is little to no downtime following Kybella. You may experience temporary swelling, bruising, or tenderness under the chin, which typically resolves within a few days. It’s best to avoid strenuous activity, alcohol, and heat exposure for 24–48 hours after treatment.
Visible improvement begins to appear within several weeks as the body metabolizes destroyed fat cells. Full results typically develop over the following months, revealing a slimmer, more contoured jawline. Because Kybella permanently eliminates treated fat cells, results are lasting, although maintaining a stable weight will help preserve your outcome.
